Jackson Pollock said “Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is”. Each painting and drawing I create is a depiction of my feelings and emotions. I am fascinated with the Surrealist’s concept of tapping into the subconscious through automatism. I have spent the last two years developing this idea by using music as a way of provoking a feeling. I choose one song, then play it on repeat until I finish the painting or drawing. This helps me to sustain the same feeling over a prolonged period. It also enables me to empty my head, allowing me to paint without any preconceived notions of what the outcome will be.
