Heloisa Tigre (1939-2007) was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where she graduated from the city’s Federal University of Fine Arts; it was in Porto Alegre where she also married and had two children, a son and a daughter. She established herself as an artist in Brazil while also dedicating her time as an art teacher to young students. When she moved to Washington DC in 1980 with her family, she turned her focus to printmaking.

She studied extensively with Ann Zahn as part of the Printmakers’ Workshop in Bethesda, Maryland, and was a longtime member of the Washington Printmakers Gallery. For many years, Heloisa worked out of her home studio in DC. Her etchings, linocuts and paintings often employed etched line in combination with techniques of collagraph, linocut, and viscosity etching. In addition, she occasionally worked in gouache, preparing illustrations for children’s books. Heloisa participated in numerous solo and group exhibits throughout the years.

Her artwork is housed in collections at the Library of Congress, the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, the Georgetown University Library, the District of Columbia Public Library and numerous private collections.

Heloisa's family presents this website as a way to continue her legacy and share her distinctive and delightful artwork.
